Exhibition Ideas -Lyns

Ok so for the Exhibition Mabey we can outline what exactly we are doing decoration wise.

I was thinking about Having the Letters on the wall like sand paper or some kind of texture to allow the children to feel them and it gives them a better sence of what they look like and how they can write them down later. The idea of sandpaper letters came form the Language module I have for montessouri Teachers.

Mabey we can think about renting out a costume for one of the days for more entertainment?

Are we going to have life size charachtars at our booth, ie. Ben? I could mabey try and make a large image of him out of felt since I am making a miniature version of him for the mouse glove.

We need to organise a curtain or something for the exposed wall of the both. Mabey we could just get some door streamer things. Im pretty sure we could get alphebet ones some were.

I am going to offer my face painting skills also on the day so that adds to the excitment for the children. we can get some sweets and drinks and make up mega mundo lucky bags for the kids to take home with them after they have finished playing?

We can sort this out closer to the time but just to keep it in mind incase you guys come up with any other ideas.

Language development

  • In small children there is an extreme attentiveness to the human voice. They are extremely absorbent minded.
  • The sounds and rhythm of the words are like music to them.
  • We need to repeat the names of things very clearly.
  • Young children love to look at written words in their environment.

Language Development depends on ;

  • Intelligence
  • Attention
  • Auditory Memory
  • Auditory discrimination
  • Articulation
  • Cultural Factors (accent)

Stages of Development

  • Birth – No words
  • 6 Months – Babbling sounds
  • 12 Months – simple word like sounds
  • 2 years – Emerging two-word sentences; 200 words
  • 3 years – child experiments with language
  • 4 years+ – adult like grammar, full and varied vocabulary of over 2,000 words.

When speaking:

  • Enunciate, use clear pronunciation of vowel sounds
  • Articulate
  • pronunciate the whole word

alphabet

Using four basic symbols;

  • The vertical line
  • The horizontal line
  • The diagonal line
  • the circle

Using all or parts of these symbols, we make up 26 letters.

Methods of teaching reading

  • The look and say Method

Using cards with words on them and getting the children to repeat the word several times. Then the child labels the word to the specific abject.

  • The Phonic word method

The child is given a word which he or she must break into Phonetic sounds. Then by saying these words quickly, The child can then read the word.

Exercises:

  • Objects with movable alphabet
  • Pictures with movable alphabet
  • Objects and Word box
  • Pictures and word box
  • Word lists
  • Phrase building

A – ah – Ant

B – buh – bat

C – cuh – Can

D – duh – Dog
